Revised Mounting of Sunroof Lid
MODELS:
E36, E38
Situation:
The method of mounting the front of the sunroof lid on E36 and E38 models has been modified as of the August 1995 factory vacation.
The retaining screws which have been used to secure the front of the lid to the slides will be replaced by a spring. Refer to the illustrations below which show the differences in the two mounting systems.
Until updated repair instructions are received with the next issue of the repair manual, please observe the following precautions:
^ Do not install both a retaining screw and retaining spring on a mount.
^ When repairing a sunroof mount, do not mix and match adjusting levers and slides. If an adjusting lever or slide needs replacement, use only a complete "Slide kit" for that side as shown on the parts system.
^ When working on a late style mount with retaining spring, the two side Torx screws on the adjustment levers must be backed off to remove the lid. The retaining spring cannot be released when the lid is in place.
