Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
Engine Speed/Reference Sensor:
PURPOSE
The engine speed/reference sensor supplies engine speed and Top Dead Center (TDC) data to the control unit.
Engine Speed/Reference Wheel:
OPERATION
The sensor consists of a permanent magnet, iron core and a coil of wire. A magnetic field that increases and decreases is produced as the teeth of the reference wheel pass by the sensor. The TDC reference signal is generated by two missing teeth on the reference wheel as they pass by the inductive sensor.
