Removing and Installing or Replacing Final Drive

Removing and installing or replacing final drive

Note: When replacing the final drive, note rear axle ratio and version (with or without differential lock). Both pieces of information are embossed in type plate on final drive cover.

If applicable, drain final drive oil.

Installation note:

Top up final drive.

Comply with specified oil quantity.

Removing propeller shaft from input flange. Service and Repair

Pull off speedometer signal plug.

Unscrew left and right stabilizer mounts.




Unscrew and suspend left and right output shafts from car on piece of wire.

Installation note:

Use washers (1).

Tightening torque:
Fillister head bolt M10 83 Nm (61 ft lb)
with locking teeth M10 96 Nm (71 ft lb)
M12 110 Nm (81 ft lb)
Torx Bolt M10 83 Nm (61 ft lb)
with ribbed teeth M8 64 Nm (47 ft lb)
Black M10 100 Nm (74 ft lb)
Silver (replace) M10 80 Nm (59 ft lb)
M12 135 Nm (100 ft lb)




Support final drive with transmission hoist and special tool 33 4 390.




Unscrew bolts.

Installation note: Tightening torque: 77 Nm (57 ft lb)




Unscrew screw.

Lower lifter slowly and move out final drive towards rear.

Installation note: Tightening torque: 95 Nm (70 ft lb)
