Removing Top Left Timing Case Cover

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/SEALING OR REPLACING TOP LEFT TIMING CASE COVER

- Remove left cylinder head cover, Removing Cylinder Head Covers
- Remove fan coupling with fan wheel, Removing Fan Coupling
- If necessary, remove tubes for secondary air intake.
- Unfasten top left tank vent valve from timing case cover.




- Unfasten positive battery line from timing case cover and place to one side.




- Unfasten timing case cover.





Installation Note:
- Ensure dowel sleeves (1) are correctly located.
- Coat contact surface edges of joint between cylinder head and cylinder head gasket with liquid gasket Hylomar SQ32.





Installation Note:
- Keep sealing faces clean and free of oil.
- Replace seals.

CAUTION:
- Note installation direction of gaskets.
- Install gaskets with sealing bead (1) facing the timing case cover.





Installation Note: Ensure gaskets are correctly seated, then fit timing case cover with screw inserted. It is not possible to insert screw at a later point.





Installation Note:
- Install all screws.
- Fit screws (1) against cylinder head with no clearance.





Installation Note: Tighten screws (2) on timing case cover in two passes.





Installation Note: Tighten remaining screws (1) in cylinder head in two passes. Torque to 21 ± 1 Nm (15.5 ± 1 ft lb)
