Drive Programs
Range Selector:
DRIVE PROGRAMS
The shift points for the economy, winter and sports program as well as for kickdown are stored in the form of characteristic curves in the control unit. Selection can be made with the program switch between these programs and manual gearshift.
The program switch is designed as a push button connected with respect to ground. Two programs may be selected via push button "A and * (winter)".
Program Selection:
A-Program
The "A" symbol means automatic or normal driving which requests comfortable shifts and optimum fuel economy. Selecting "A" will post an "E" (economy) in the instrument cluster matrix display.
Sport Program:
Sport Program
Selecting the "A" program in conjunction with range position "2, 3, 4" will produce the S-program; shift characteristic will based on performance.
While in the Sport program, 5th gear is not used. However, a 4-5 upshift will occur if maximum engine RPM is reached in 4th gear.
Winter Program:
Winter Program (*)
The Winter program reduces rear wheel torque which is beneficial when driving on slippery road surfaces. The winter program with drive selected provides a 2-3-4-5 shift and allows the selective locking of lower gear ranges.
Trailer Program
In the trailer program, 2nd gear is engaged after the first gear has left its respective range.
Drive Program Indication
The current drive program is displayed in the instrument cluster. For this purpose, only the signals of the lines L6 (E) Pin 39 at the control unit and L7 (*) Pin 13 are evaluated.
NOTES:
The drive programs cannot be switched over by the EGS control unit before engine start since the control unit can only complete its initialization phase after it has detected an engine speed.
Depending on the engine temperature which is signalled to the EGS control unit when the vehicle is started, the part load shift points are shifted such that the engine reaches its operating temperature as fast as possible.
