Engine: Service and Repair

CAUTION: Mark installation position of components, electrical connectors and hoses prior to removal. Cross connection of the right and left knock sensors will cause engine damage.

1. Relieve fuel system pressure as outlined under "Precautions."
2. Disconnect battery ground cable
3. Raise and support vehicle and drain cooling system.
4. Lock hood in vertical service position.
5. Remove radiator as outlined under "Radiator Replace."
6. Remove coolant reservoir bottle.
7. Remove transmission as outlined under "Clutch & Manual Transmission" or "Automatic Transmission."
8. Remove heat shields on front axle carrier, then disconnect oil level switch.
9. Remove bolts and ground cable from motor mounts.
10. Release serpentine drive belt tensioner, then remove belt.
11. Remove alternator, then the power steering pump without disconnecting hoses and position aside.
12. Remove A/C compressor without disconnecting hoses and position aside.
13. Remove upper half of air cleaner and air mass sensor.
14. Disconnect all cables, hoses and connectors from throttle body.
15. Remove cylinder head trim covers, then disconnect ignition coils.
16. Disconnect all wiring connectors and cables from engine. Mark cables and connectors for installation reference.
17. Disconnect fuel lines and coolant lines from engine.
18. Attach suitable engine hoisting equipment to engine lifting eyes only, then lift engine from vehicle.
19. Reverse procedures to install, noting the following:
a. Tighten to specifications.
b. Bleed cooling system.
c. Do not cross connect right and left engine knock sensors or engine damage will result.
