Correction: Overview
Perform the following on all affected vehicles currently in dealer stock and when an affected vehicle is next in the workshop using only programming software (disk A & B) V6.0 or higher. Note that once the EPROM is reprogrammed, the control module will need time to readapt. Adaptation will occur during the first 10-20 minutes of vehicle operation under various load conditions.1. A replacement DME EPROM must be determined by following the procedure provided in S.I. 12 07 95 (4273).
2. Replace the EPROM in the control module by following the procedure given in S.I. 12 08 95 (4274).
If an after market EPROM is found to be installed, please refer to the After market EPROM section in this bulletin.
Due to a difference in communication protocol, you must only install the EPROM that is indicated by the determination process.
If a replacement programmable control module needs to be ordered do not order one by way of the parts fiche. A replacement control module should only be ordered based on the part number identification given by the MoDiC. By installing the part number indicated by the MoDiC you will be better able to follow the procedure for programming a control module (see S.I. 12 07 95 (4273) for programming instructions).
3. Program the EPROM using the instructions given in S.I. 12 07 95 (4273). During the programming of the EPROM, synchronization/alignment with the EWS II control module is performed automatically. If EWS II synchronization/alignment is not carried out select step 4 in the programming menu, "Adjustment EWS - DME (Vehicles from 1/95)".
After the control module is programmed, place a new identification label over the old label.
Use the fluorescent orange label which is identified as "BMW SERVICE ACTION" P/N 01 00 1 469 136 as a seal, place it over the edge of the control module cover and bottom plate.
Discard the red label resembling a service action sticker supplied within each EPROM package.
4. Change the engine oil and oil filter on all affected vehicles that have been retailed and vehicles in demo service.
