SUBJECT:
Initialization of Remote Transmitters after Replacement of General Module

MODEL:
5 Series (E39), 7 Series (E38)

Complaint:
After replacement of the General Module, one or more Remote Transmitters (master keys) fail to lock/unlock the vehicle.

Cause:
Remote Transmitters were not properly initialized to the replacement GM.

Correction:
If the General Module is replaced in an E38 or E39 vehicle, the Remote Transmitters (master keys) must be initialized to the replacement GM.

Both (or all) transmitters must be initialized.

Important:
Whenever a customer schedules an appointment for any work which could possibly result in the replacement of a General Module, the customer should be advised to bring all Remote Transmitters (Master Keys) in with the vehicle.

This will avoid the necessity of a second visit to the workshop to initialize the transmitters.

Procedure:
- Using the DIS Tester, select "Body", "Body Electrical Systems", "Locking and Security Systems"

- Select "Test Schedule"

- Select "3 Service Functions"

- Select "3 Initialization"

- Follow the displayed procedure exactly!

Warranty Status:
Information Only. Initialization of remote transmitters is included in the replacement of the General Module.
