Removing Intake Manifold
REMOVING AND INSTALLING INTAKE AIR MANIFOLDCAUTION: BMW anti-theft radios can be rendered useless by disconnecting the battery. Make sure you know the correct code before disconnecting the battery. See your owner's manual for more information.
- Disconnect negative battery lead.
- Disconnecting engine section of wiring harness from intake manifold and placing to one side together with cable ducts.
- Disconnect Bowden cables for throttle valve actuation.
- Unfasten tank venting hose from throttle body.
- If necessary, remove throttle valve.
CAUTION: Catch escaping fuel and dispose of correctly while removing and installing fuel supply and return lines.
NOTE: Replace fuel hoses and hose clips.
- Remove connector for brake force booster.
- Remove clip and slide engine vent tube forwards.
Installation Note: Check/replace sealing ring.
- Unscrew nuts.
- Remove decoupling elements and lift intake air manifold upwards to remove.
- If necessary, remove cover (1) with non-return valve.
Installation: Check seal and gasket and replace if necessary.
NOTE: To prevent the propagation of vibration, the intake manifold is separated from the cylinder head by decoupling elements and gaskets.
(1) Nut
(2) Decoupling element
(3) Intake air manifold
(4) Gasket
Installation Note:
- Fit two decoupling elements on left and right with nuts and do not tighten (i.e. no preload).
- Align intake air manifold.
- Fit all other decoupling elements with nuts and tighten crosswise from inside to outside. Torque to 15 ± 2 Nm (11 ± 1.5 ft lb).
Installation Note: Check gaskets and replace if necessary.
CAUTION: Ensure that gaskets are correctly seated.
