R & R Control Module (Diagnosis Unit)

WARNING: Review Service Pres. Improper handling could cause activation of the airbag(s) and lead to injuries!

REMOVE
- Disconnect battery and cover negative pole or terminal.
- A waiting period of approximately 5 minutes should be observed before beginning electrical work to allow the capacitor charge to dissipate.
- Remove lower steering column casing section.





- Disconnect plug connection for airbag (orange).





- Lift ventilation grille (rear oddment tray) out of top by inserting wooden wedge underneath.





- Press up ventilation grille (1) until hooks (2) are visible at bottom finisher and pull back bottom finisher and lift out.





- Disconnect plug connector (1 and 2) at ventilation grille.
- Unfasten plug connection (3) and disconnect.
- If necessary disconnect plug connector (4) for seat heating.





- Release nuts and lift out control module.





- Unlock connector and remove control module.





INSTALL
- Install in reverse order.

NOTE:
A new control module must be recoded via the BMW Diagnosis Information System (DIS).
Before installing control module, make sure the ground lead is fitted on stud bolt (1).

- Check for possible trouble codes.
- Verify proper system operation.
