ZAE SYSTEM COMPONENTS
SEAT OCCUPANCY DETECTION
An occupancy sensor pad is incorporated into the seat cushion of the passenger seat.
The pad is a foil contact sensor that is open when the seat is not occupied. When the seat cushion is depressed by the weight of an occupant the sensor circuit produces a resistance value that varies with additional weight or movement.
This variable analog signal is input to the Seat Occupancy Module (SBE). The SBE is a small signal converter module mounted under the passenger seat. The SBE produces a square wave signal based on the signal from the seat sensor pad. The pulse width of the square wave is modulated for recognition of passenger seat occupancy.
SEATBELT CONTACTS
The seatbelt contacts are incorporated into the seatbelt latch. The ZAE uses these switched ground input signals for recognition of a buckled seatbelt.
PYROTECHNIC SEATBELT TENSIONERS
The seatbelt tensioners are now tensioned by a gas charge similar to the airbag. When tensioned, the seatbelts are pulled tight to compensate for belt stretch.
