Section B: Defect Code 00 12 08 01 000

1. Defect code 00 12 08 01 00 is indicated on DCS.

2. Remove both wooden trim panels (1) & (2) from behind the steering wheel and disconnect the interior light dimmer switch and the cruise control switch.

Remove the instrument cluster to assist in disconnecting the park brake release cable.

3. Remove the knee bolster trim panel (1) and knee bolster.

4. Locate the wiring harness leading to the PWG sensor. The main wiring for the PWG sensor consists of 3 individual harnesses (1) each with a colored band (red, green, and blue) located near connector X73.

If any of the 3 color banded wires are to thick to fit into the slot on the special tool, the newer harness has already been installed.
Reinstall the knee bolster and trim panel. If a throttle housing was replaced, continue with Section C and reset the EML adaptation values.

If any of the 3 color banded wires easily fit into the slot of special tool P/N 90 88 6 127 400, a by-pass harness P/N 61 12 8 374 781 must be installed.

5. The by-pass harness contains the following components:

(1.) Wiring diagram
(2.) EML/PWG by-pass harness
(3.) Wire ties
(4.) Lubricant for harness installation
(5.) Harness feeder tube
(6.) Connector housing for PWG
(7.) Connector for PWG
(8.) Extra pins for PWG X73 connection
(9.) Extra pins for EML X25 connection
(10.) X73 connector lock

6. Disconnect the battery.

7. Remove 3 control modules (1) DME I, (2) DME II and (3) AGS) and tie the connectors back.

NOTE:
Make certain that DME 1 and DME 2 are not switched during reassembly or the engine will not start until the DME I and EWS are realigned.

8. Remove the control unit carrier from the Ebox.

9. Apply the special lubricant provided to the portion of the harness that will be pulled into the footwell area. Insert a portion of the harness feeder tube (2) through the rubber grommet in the lower left corner of the E-box (1). Feed a portion of the harness through the tube and into the footwell area.

10. Remove the glove box to gain access to the rubber grommet in the right corner of the footwell area.
Pull the feed tube through the grommet.
Pull a large portion of the by-pass harness through the grommet and into the passenger footwell area.

11. Remove the trim panel (1) from the right side of the center console.
Run the bypass harness (2) along the firewall, behind the heater/AC housing.

12. Remove the trim panel (1) from the left side of the center console.
Pull the bypass harness (2) into the drivers footwell area.

13. Route the bypass harness (2) underneath the steering column (1).

14. Route the bypass harness (3) up to X73 the PWG connector (1) making certain that the harness is not going to get pinched at the brake pedal or steering column.

15. Disconnect the main harness (1) from the PWG sensor at X73.
Remove pins 1-9 from the main harness connector (1).

16. Install the following wires/pins from the bypass harness into X73 as indicated:

Wire Color Band PIN Wire

Green 1 Yellow
Green 2 Black
Green Shield
Red 4 Yellow
Red 5 Black
Red 6 Shield
Blue 7 Yellow
Blue 8 Black
Blue 9 Shield

17. Connect X73 to the PWG, insulate the removed pins and tie the wires back. Secure the bypass harness using wire ties.

18. Remove X25 from the retaining clip in the Ebox.
The following pins need to be removed from the old harness (X25) and inserted into the new connector (X25) on the bypass hamess:

Pin to be
removed/reinstalled Color

10 Blue/Yellow
11 Blue/Violet
12 Yellow/Black
13 Brown/Green
14 Blue/Green
15 Blue/Gray
16 Gray/Green
17 Empty
18 White

Tie the old harness and connector back. Insert connector X25 from the bypass harness into the retaining clip.

19. Reinstall:

Control unit carrier
Control Modules
Reconnect wiring harness
Glove box
Trim panels
Knee bolster
Reconnect the battery.

20. Once all components are reinstalled the adaptive values of the PWG and Throttle motors must be reset refer to SECTION C.
