Starter Motor: Service and Repair

Removing And Installing Or Replacing Starter (M73)

Note instructions on connecting and disconnecting battery.
Switch off ignition.
Remove battery negative line.
Remove splash guard.







Unfasten screws in retaining plate on front axle support, unclip line and remove retaining plate.







Unscrew bolts.
Remove heat baffle plate.







Unfasten bracket on positive battery lead on crankcase.
Remove right exhaust pipes.







Unfasten nuts on heat baffle plate.







Unfasten top screw on heat baffle plate.







Unfasten lower screw in heat baffle plate. Remove heat baffle plate.







Unfasten connections on starter motor.







Unfasten top and bottom nuts.







Support bracket on crankcase: unfasten screw.
Remove starter motor from transmission mount.
Remove starter motor.

Installation:
Check starter pinion for damage.
Check starter crown for damage.
