Air Intake System
Air Intake System:
The air intake system has been redesigned to reduce the intake air noise and allow for easier servicing.
The new design uses a crossover airflow tract. The air cleaner is mounter on the right side of the engine compartment. The air flow is then routed to the intake manifold through a pipe that crosses over the radiator. The intake pipe is surrounded by insulation to help dampen noise created by the intake air charge.
The air cleaner's capacity has been increased from 6.5 liters to 9.5 liters extending the service life of the filter. There is an additional acoustic chamber mounted to the filter housing. Its purpose is to dampen intake air noise within certain RPM ranges.
The throttle butterfly has been modified to include the idle control valve. It is now mounted directly to the throttle housing. This eliminates the need for hoses and additional connections. Electronically the idle control valve functions the same as the M60 and M50 engines.
The throttle position potentiometer functions the same as on the M42 and is adaptive for idle position recognition.
