Removal and Replacement

Note instructions on disconnecting and connecting the battery, refer to Starting and Charging.
Disconnect negative battery lead.

Remove the ignition coil from the spring strut dome.

Move engine hood into assembly position; this work is described for replacing windshield wiper arms, refer to Windshield and Wipers
Disconnecting throttle cable (Bowden cable) from throttle valve, refer to Powertrain Management.

Removing intake filter housing, refer to Powertrain Management.

Remove fan coupling with fan wheel, refer to Cooling System.

Remove radiator, refer to Cooling System, Radiator.





Disconnect heater hoses at heater and heating valve.





Release oil tank for hydraulic steering and tie back to one side.

Note: Lines remain connected.

Unfasten vane pump for power steering unit from alternator carrier and tie up to one side (lines remain connected).

Removing underside of manifold, refer to Intake Manifold.

Unfasten the wire harness section for the engine.
The plug and screw connections are described in Wiring Diagrams.

Caution: Follow instructions on removal and installation of fuel hoses, refer to Powertrain Management.

Loosen fuel supply line and return line.

Removing transmission, refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.





Attach engine to special tool 11 0 070.





Unfasten right ground wire.
Unscrew left and right engine mounts.

Automatic transmission:
Release oil lines from engine carrier and from oil pan.

Lift out engine.
