Wiper Assembly Replacement
Refer to Service Precautions. Service Precautions
- Run wipers to parked position.
- Switch off wipers.
- Remove wiper arms.
CAUTION: Do not switch on windscreen wipers with the engine hood raised.
If tolerances are unfavorable, the wiper arm on the driver side could collide with the engine bonnet and windscreen if the wipers were switched on.
Remove fuse for windscreen wipers to avoid damaging engine bonnet and windscreen.
- Disconnect battery ground wire.
- Remove grille cover of air collector.
- Loosen wiring harness on end wall. Bend insulation sheet to one side.
- Remove screws of cable channel.
- Press wiring harness to one side. Remove screws. Remove holder.
- Pull out air collector in upwards direction.
M50: Unclip covers.
- Unscrew bolts.
- Remove cover of injection-valve plate.
- Unclip covers.
- Unscrew bolts.
- Remove cover.
- Cover inside and edges of cowl panelling with plastic sheet or similar. This will prevent scratching the cowl panelling when removing wiper console.
- Unscrew nuts.
- Remove complete support.
- Unscrew bolts.
- Unfasten plug connection on end wall and/or on wiper motor.
- Wrap insulating tape around wiper shaft on driver side to prevent scratching cowl panelling during removal.
- Work wiper console out of body.
Installation:
Make sure rubber grommets are mounted correctly in cable openings when installing cable duct.
Otherwise penetrating water could lead to failure of engine electric system.
Torque Bolt to specification in the following sequence:
1. To cowl panelling (large nut)
2. Support to wiper motor
3. Support to body
Installation:
only install in following sequence:
1. Run wiper motor to parked position.
2. Switch off wipers.
3. Fit wiper arms.
4. Close engine bonnet!
5. Fit wiper blades.
