Cylinder Block Assembly: Description and Operation

Cylinder Block:

The cylinder block continues to be made from cast iron and the cylinder spacing remains at 91 mm apart, center to center.

The block has been modified in the following areas for the M44 engine:
- The bore has been increased to 85 mm.
- The engine speed/reference sensor is now mounted to the rear of the block. A mounting hole is cast into the left rear side to accommodate the sensor.

Cylinder Block:

- Passages are cast into the main bearing support webs. This reduces the amount of pressure build up in the crankcase.
- The piston cooling jets are redesigned. They are now "L" shaped nozzle jets bolted into the main oil pressure supply gallery.
