Timing Case
Removal
Removal and fitting are described separately.
Remove the timing chain and the slide and tensioning rails, refer to Timing Chain, Service and Repair.
Removing alternator, refer to Starting and Charging.
Remove alternator carrier. Unscrew oil-filter cover
These tasks are described as part of procedure for removing full-flow oil filter, refer to Engine Lubrication.
Removing oil pan, refer to Oil Pan, Service and Repair.
Release gear case.
If necessary, remove the oil pump and the control valve, refer to Oil Pump, Service and Repair.
If necessary, remove the main flow oil filter, refer to Oil Filter Housing, Service and Repair.
If necessary, remove water pump, refer to Cooling System.
Installation
Fitting and removal are described separately.
Clean and remove grease from sealing surfaces of the engine block.
Ensure dowel sleeves (1) are correctly located.
Replace seal.
Coat the seal for the oil sump separating joint with Drei Bond 1209 (or equivalent).
Clean groove for rubber profile seal and sealing surfaces on gear case of remains of seal.
Apply Drei Bond 1209 sealing compound thinly and evenly to the groove ends.
Seat new rubber seal in groove.
Apply a thin coat of grease to upper face of rubber sealing strip and both sides of Special Tool 11 2 330
Place Special Tool 11 2 330 on rubber profile seal upper side.
Fit gear case.
Install and tighten all screws.
Carefully pull out Special Tool 11 2 330.
Assemble engine.
