SUBJECT:
Malfunction of IHKA E36 control buttons

MODELS:
3 Series vehicles (E36) 96 model year with IHKA produced up to 02/96. (All E36 except 318ti and Z3)

Complaint:

One or more of the IHKA E36 control buttons intermittently fail to work or the light for the A/C button (blue LED) is flickering.

Cause:

During manufacturing the button contacts may have been contaminated. This causes the buttons not to operate properly.

Correction:

In case of this complaint, only the IHKA control unit should be replaced. The front panel and the blower for the interior temperature sensor should be retained. After replacing, the control unit must be encoded.
