E38 Drivetrain Components

E38 Drivetrain Components

- Differential

The new differential housing incorporates the mounting bracket necessary for attaching to the rear suspension subframe.

- The final drive ratio is 3.15:1.

- Drive shaft

The drive shaft of the E38 is similar to the E32's in regard to mechanical function. In the event of a frontal collision, it is designed to absorb the energy of the crash by collapsing in a predetermined way.

- Hydraulic Transmission Mount

The transmission is mounted to the rigid cross member by a single hydraulic mount similar to the engine mounts. This addition contributes to the refined acoustical and vibration decoupling of the E38's driveline to the passenger compartment.

- Transmission Range Selection Switch Relocated.

A new style range selector switch is mounted to the right side of the transmission.

The range selector switch is now directly linked to protruding end of the selector shaft that controls the manual valve in the transmission

The function of the switch is the same as on the E32.
