Crankcase
CRANKCASEAn aluminum alloy block continues to be used for the M62 engine. However, the manufacturing process for the block is changed to the Alusil die-casting process (same as used for the M73-V12).
The Alusil block is better suited for areas where high sulfur content fuels are used.
The bore of the M62 block is increased by 3mm to 92mm. This coupled with the increased stroke of 2.7mm provides the total displacement of 4.4 liters.
Other changes to the block include the use of "hook type" oil spray jets for piston cooling.
NOTE: The U.S. M62 engine contains many revised components such as pistons, camshafts, etc. While similar in appearance, non U.S. components are not interchangeable with U.S. engines. Always verify component part numbers.
