Fuel Pump Control

New for DME M5.2 is the shared control of one fuel pump by both control modules. The use of one fuel pump allows the M73 engine equipped E38s / E31s to be compatible with the single fuel pump system of the M60 equipped vehicles.

Using one pump for both cylinder banks also improves the overall system in the following areas:
- Cost reduced
- Reliability increased
- Less hose and clamp connections
- Parts inventory reduced, parts same for the 740i/iL

Both DME control modules activate the final stage for the fuel pump relay control circuit which ensures operation of the fuel pump if one DME control module is off line. As on the 740i, the fuel pump relay is located in the right rear of the trunk in the relay carrier.
