SUBJECT:
Programming M3 (S52) Engine Control Module

MODEL:
E36 M3 (S52 3.2L) with Automatic Transmission

Situation:

Engine control module(DME) can not be reprogrammed or programmed on M3 Automatic vehicles (S52-3.2L).

^ Programming stops at 90% completion.

Correction:

The DME can be programmed as follows:

^ Perform a determination as per the MODIC.

^ Prior to starting the programming or reprogramming procedure, the Transmission Control Module must be disconnected.

^ Upon completion of the programming reconnect the Transmission Control Module and perform a quick clear of all control modules.

Note:
There should be no problems with reprogramming or programming an M3 (S52-3.2L) Manual Transmission vehicle.

With the release of CD 9.1, the engine control module can again be diagnosed using the DIS tester.
