Oil Circuit/Coolant System
Oil Circuit:
Oil Circuit
The M44 engine uses a duocentric oil pump. The pump has been upgraded from the M42 engine. The rotor set has been widened by 1.6 mm to provide a higher pumping capacity. The capacity output is increased by approx. 20%.
The oil filter continues to be mounted on the left side of the engine for ease of service.
Coolant System
The coolant system is similar in design to the M42 engine's coolant system. The compact radiator with integrated expansion tank is carried over. Coolant flow is front-to-back through the block and back-to-front through the head, as on the M42. An electric cooling fan is used for both engine cooling and auxiliary cooling for A/C operation.
The opening temperature of the thermostat has been raised to 95 °C.
