SUBJECT:
Variable Camshaft Control System (VANOS) Function Check

MODEL:
All 6 Cylinder engines with VANOS

Situation:
If repairs become necessary which include the removal and installation or replacement of the VANOS unit, it must be adjusted and checked for proper function as outlined in the repair manual group 11 section 11 36 010.

The VANOS function check must be performed to assure the total intake camshaft throw is at least 8.5mm or greater when the system is activated.

If the total intake camshaft throw is less than 8.5mm the VANOS adjusting unit must be readjusted and rechecked following the repair manual procedure to avoid faults in this system.
