Bleeding Brake System With DSC3
Note: Refer to "General Information", found in Brakes and Traction Control, Description and Operation. Description and Operation
Observe following filling and bleeding specification when exchanging or repairing:
tandem-brake master cylinder
hydraulic control unit DSC3
and components or connecting lines installed between these units.
When carrying out any other work on the brake system (e.g. replacing brake calipers), follow the specification "Bleeding Brake System with ABS/ASC+T".
After working on the pre-boost pump, it is only necessary to bleed, the front-axle circuit. Here, before flushing the brake system, activate the pre-boost pump with the Diagnosis and Information System (DIS) (bleeding unit connected with max. 2 bar filling pressure).
After completing work, a final inspection must be carried out with the Diagnosis and Information System (DIS) under the menu item "Service function".
Connect BMW Diagnosis and Information System (DIS).
Call up service function Bleeding ABS/DSC3 Hydraulics.
Connect bleeding unit to expansion tank and switch on.
Note:
Check relevant Operating Instructions for each device.
Charging pressure must not exceed 2 bar.
Flush entire braking system
Connect bleeder hose and bottle to bleed valve on rear right brake caliper.
Open bleed valve and flush until clear, bubble-free brake fluid emerges.
Close bleeder valve.
Follow same procedure on wheel brakes rear left, front right and front left.
Bleed rear-axle brake circuit
Connect bleeder hose and bottle to bleed valve on rear right brake caliper.
Open bleed valve.
Run bleeding routine with BMW Diagnosis and Information System (DIS) with bleeder valve opened.
After running routine, depress brake pedal 5 times to stop; clear, bubble-free brake fluid must flow out.
Close bleeder valve.
Repeat procedure at rear left.
Bleed front-axle brake circuit
Push bleeder hose with container onto the bleeder valve on the front right brake caliper.
Open bleed valve.
Run bleeding routine with BMW Diagnosis and Information System (DIS) with bleeder valve opened.
After running routine, depress brake pedal 5 times to stop; clear, bubble-free brake fluid must flow out.
Close bleeder valve.
Repeat procedure at front left.
Switch off bleeder unit and disconnect from expansion tank.
Check brake fluid level.
Close expansion tank.
Note: Take care of rubber gasket (1) in lid.
