Engine Control Module: Service and Repair

CAUTION: Note instructions for removal and installation of electronic control unit! Service Precautions

- Read fault memory.
- Switch off ignition.

NOTE: Before replacing the control module, comply with the following instructions:

Encode control module.

Program control module.




- Fold open locking bracket (1). Fold open cover of filter housing and unhook from hinges.
- Remove rubber gasket (2).

Installation Note: Hook cover of filter housing into hinges in correct position. Incorrect installation leads to sealing problems.




- Remove retaining clip (3).
- Pull filter housing (4) upwards to remove.




- Unscrew bolts (1).

Tightening Torque = 4.4 Nm




1. Control unit of Digital Motor Electronics Unfasten plug connection and remove control unit from retaining clips.
2. Control unit for automatic transmission Unfasten plug connection and remove control unit from retaining clips.

Installation Note: Interrogate fault memory of DME control unit, check faults in memory then cancel fault memory.

NOTE:
Sensor wheel adaptation must be carried out after replacing a DME control unit or increment wheel. If only the increment wheel is replaced, the sensor-wheel adaptation must first be deleted (disconnect control unit from power supply for 5 minutes) Sensor wheel adaptation is implemented automatically as soon as the engine is operated in overrun condition for at least 10 seconds. Adjustments -- Refer to Sensor-Wheel Adaptation.
