The 1995 7 series vehicle designated the E38 once again takes its place as the flagship of BMW automobiles. As with it's predecessors (E32 & E23) the E38 has been designed as a completely new vehicle. It sets new standards in:

- Body aerodynamics
- Interior design aesthetics
- System electronic control
- Suspension design

The US market will receive the E38 in two model variations; the 740i/iL and in later production the 750iL.

The 740i/iL is equipped with the reliable, performance proven M60 4.0 liter V8 engine and the A5S 560Z five speed automatic transmission.

The aerodynamically refined body design and features of the E38 740i have trimmed the the CD rating of the new flagship to 0.31.
