Shift Interlock: Testing and Inspection


Checking/adjusting interlock/shiftlock function
Check interlock function:
a Ignition key withdrawn and/or in ignition key setting "Zero"
It must not be possible to move selector lever out of position "P".
b Turn ignition key into "Ignition" position and actuate footbrake:
It must be possible to select all selector lever positions.
c) Select all selector lever positions except "P":
It must not be possible to turn back and remove the ignition key in position "Zero".
d) Move selector lever into position "P":
It must be possible to turn back and remove ignition key in position"Zero".

Adjust interlock:





Move selector lever (1) into position "P" (front detent on selector gate).
Loosen screw (2). It must be possible to move cable (3) slightly in axial direction in bracket (4).
Ignition key in position "Zero" or pull it out.
Press interlock lever (5) down into limit position.
Tighten down screw (2),
Tightening torque,
Refer to Shift Lever Housing, Specifications.

Check interlock adjustment:
Turn ignition key in position "Ignition ", then turn back into position "Zero".
Interlock lever (5) must make contact with selector lever (1).
If necessary, repeat this adjustment.

Check shiftlock function:
a) Ignition on, selector lever in position "P" or "N", operate foot brake:
Selector lever must unlock.
b) Start engine, operate foot brake,
Engine speed greater than 2500 rpm:
Selector lever must be secured in position "P" or "N".
c) Ignition on, move selector lever into position "R", foot brake released:
When changing rapidly from position "R" to "D" and from "D" to "R", the selector lever must not be locked off when it moves beyond position "N".
If selector lever spends longer than approximately 0.5 seconds in position "N", it must be locked off.
d) The selector lever must not be locked off in position "P" or "N".
e) Roadspeed greater than 5 km/h:
The selector lever must not be locked off.
