Complete Rear Axle Carrier


Removing and installing complete rear axle carrier
Remove wheels, refer to Steering and Suspension.
Remove propeller shaft.
Draw fuel out of right half of tank.
Disconnect hose from tank filler pipe and seal, refer to Powertrain Management.
Remove left and right brake calipers and tie up on body, refer to Brakes and Traction Control.
Remove left and right ABS impulse sensors, refer to Brakes and Traction Control.





Disconnect Bowden cable on parking brake from connecting piece.
Unfasten right Bowden cable bracket from body.





Unfasten nut and disconnect control rod.
Remove level control valve from rear axle carrier.
Unfasten left and right shock absorbers from wheel carrier.

Installation:





Square head (1) on rubber mount points towards head of screw.
Tightening torque, refer to Differential Specifications.





Support rear axle with special tools 00 2 030/ 040 and 33 4 220.
Unfasten left and right screws and lower rear axle.

Installation:





Threaded pins (1) on rear detent plate must be fitted along longitudinal axis of vehicle. Tightening torque, refer to Differential Specifications.
