SUBJECT:
Updated Transmission Software for AGS Version 8.60.2

MODEL:
E38 - 740i/iLA produced 9/97 - 3/98 E39 - 540iA produced 9/97 - 3/98

Situation:
A CUSTOMER COMPLAINT pertaining to the following may be encountered:

^ Transmission shifts harsh on 1-2 upshifts under light acceleration, especially in the "S" (Sport) mode.

^ "Trans. Failsafe Prog" was indicated in the instrument cluster, any of the following faults may be set in the AGS fault memory:

FC1, FC2, FC3, FC4 or FC5

Cause:
Software calibration and software diagnostic routines.





Correction:
If a CUSTOMER COMPLAINT is received and the AGS Control Module software number is as indicated below, the AGS control module should be reprogrammed with DIS version 14.0 or higher:
