SUBJECT:
Fault Code 22 Transmission Temperature Sensor, AGS Version 8.55

MODEL:
E38 - 740i/iLA produced 5/97 - 8/97 E39 - 54OiA produced 5/97 - 8/97

Situation:
A CUSTOMER COMPLAINT pertaining to the following may be encountered:

^ Transmission hangs in gear at times.
FC 22 is stored in AGS fault memory

^ Transmission downshifts for no apparent reason at times.
FC22 is stored in AGS fault memory

Cause:
The root cause of this situation is still under investigation.





Correction:
Clean the engine harness connector ~ at the transmission and the transmission electrical connector with electrical contact cleaner. Allow the cleaner to dry completely before reconnecting.

Procedure:
Report all cases to BMW Quality & Service Engineering via "Pink Sheet", attach the DIS Diagnosis report with test/hex code printouts. If further assistance is required contact the technical hotline at 1-800-472-7222 to get in contact with a ZF Technical Specialist.
