Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor

The fuel tank pressure sensor input to the MS41.1 Control Module, is provided by the pressure transducer mounted on the fuel tank filler pipe. The input is used, by the control module, to check the fuel storage and purge system for leaks as part of the OBD II emission requirements. The pressure sensor receives its power supply from the control module and produces a varying voltage input to the control module, representing the amount of pressure in the fuel tank.

Monitoring the purge system for leaks is an output control function of the MS41.1 Control Module (as covered in the purge system section).

The input from the fuel tank pressure sensor is also continuously monitored as part of the OBD II emission requirements. The parameters for monitoring of the sensor include:

- Upper and lower limit voltage checks
- Open circuits

If a malfunction occurs, the MS41.1 Control Module will discontinue the purge system monitoring and the fault will be stored in memory. The Check Engine Lamp will illuminate when the criteria for OBD II monitoring is satisfied.
