Engine intervention is used an another method for the traction control system to reduce the engine's output torque. Based on the traction control module's programming signals are sent to the engine control module to:

^ Retard the timing for slip/stability control.
^ Advance the timing for MSR control.
^ Fade the injection/ignition out for slip/stability control.
^ Cancel decel fuel cutoff for MSR control.

Retarding the timing creates a slower - smoother combustion process for reduced power. Canceling the injection/ignition is the quickest method for power reduction to reduce wheel slip.

The signal paths from the traction control module to the engine control module are either hard wired or passed over the CAN line on later models.
