What Is Control Module Coding?

What Is Control Module Coding?

Websters dictionary defines the word coding as, "A systematically arranged and comprehensive collection of rules."

Codable control modules contain systematically arranged and comprehensive collections of functions. By part number, codable control modules contain every possible controlling variation for the system it controls. This includes Possible variations in:
- Processing characteristics,
- Input signal nominal values,
- Input signal type,
- Number or type of system functions (one specific market may require a certain function that all other markets do not.),
- Control parameters of a function (length of time function is active, when the function becomes active, etc.)

The process of encoding activates only the functions designed and approved for the specific system in the specific market the module is encoded for. Encoding is carried out using the MoDiC or DIS.

Not all control modules are encodable. Some require dealer programming or a specific factory programmed control module as replacement units.
