Brake Pedal Travel Sensor
The pedal position sensor is mounted in the power brake booster in the E36 Teves system. It monitors brake pedal travel and signals the control module to activate the return pump to build pressure in the system and prevent the brake pedal from sinking to the floor.
At the start of an ABS/ASC control cycle, the control module stores the reading from the sensor. As the brake pedal moves down during pressure build up, the signal from the sensor changes. The control module will switch the return pump on and brake fluid will be pumped back into the pressure circuit. This will force the pedal to move back. When the pedal reaches the original position, the return pump switches off. This cycling will continue until the ABS/ASC control phase stops.
