Left or Right Wheel Bearing on Rear Axle Shaft



Remove wheel, refer to Steering and Suspension.





Unfasten collar nut (1).
Remove brake disk, refer to Brakes and Traction Control.





Secure special tool 33 2 116 to drive flange with wheel nuts.
Drive out drive flange with special tool 33 4 201 / 202 / 203.

Caution: The wheel bearing is destroyed when the drive flange is removed and cannot be reused!





If necessary, remove inner bearing race with special tool 33 1 312 00 7 500 from groove in bearing race.

Note: Refer also to Detaching Inner Wheel Bearing Race From Drive Flange.





Unfasten screws and remove wheel bearing.





The contact faces (2) of wheel bearing and wheel carrier and the tapped bores (1) must be clean and free of grease.
Install new wheel bearing.
Bottom screws: 1/2 " socket wrench with joint
Upper screws: 1/2 " socket wrench with extension
Tightening Torque, refer to Differential Specifications.





Apply light coat of oil to drive flange (1), attach drive flange on spline of output shaft and tighten it down with special tool 33 2 115 / 116 118.





Replace collar nut (1). Tightening Torque, refer to Differential, Specifications.
Secure collar nut by peening on flat areas of output shaft!
