Final Drive







The compact final drive assembly is used for the first time in the E39. Two different drives are used for the 528i and 540i. The changes to the compact drive compared to previous drives include:

- Shorter distance between the driveshaft bearings
- More compact housing
- Hollow shafts and axles
- No side covers
- No impulse wheel for vehicle speed output
- No Limited Slip option
