Alternator: Testing and Inspection




Checking Alternator







Test requirements:
- Correct connections on charged battery
- Correct connections on alternator and starter motor
- Good ground connection between engine and body
- Tightened drive belt


Connect DIS Tester.
Select "Measurement".
Select "Preset measurements".
Start engine and compare readings with specified values.







If the charge indicator lamp goes out while the engine is running but the control voltage is not reached, you must replace the voltage regulator.The oscillogram corresponds to the adjacent illustration.


NOTE:
As dictated by the electronic voltage regulator, the following fault patterns cannot be displayed in the DIS Tester at present:
- Diode fault
- Coil winding short circuit
- Phase interruption
