Draining And Filling Fuel Tank


Caution!

Observe relevent country safety legislation and regulations!
Ensure adequate ventilation in the place of work!
Connect the exhaust and extraction systems to the exhaust tailpipe.
The electric fuel pump must not operate without fuel!
After servicing before the first engine start-up, fill the fuel tank via the fuel filling line with at least 5 l fuel.







NOTE:
The fuel tank has two tube necks for draining off fuel.
The right neck, facing in direction of travel, leads into inside of tank to right side of tank.


Both tube necks are linked together with a section of hose which seals them from outside.

M57
On the M57, only the right connection viewed in the direction of travel is available for drawing off since the left connection for the auxiliary heater/independent heating also leads to the right half of the tank. Connect suction extractor unit, draw off right half of tank. Then start engine and run for approx. 20 seconds in order to activate suction jet pump. Draw off remaining fuel.







Remove left stone chip guard.
Unfasten both connections with special tool 13 3 010.







Sever fuel hose in the center.







Connect suction unit to a hose section with an adapter.
Remove special tool 13 3 010.
- fuel flows into container -


NOTE: Drain second half of tank in same manner.







Caution!
Even when only working on one side of tank, both halves of tank must be drained.








Remove both hose sections and replace with a new fuel hose.
