M73 TU Introduction

M73 TU ENGINE

The M73 TU provides EPA and ARB emission compliance for current and future model years Additionally, the required new features, added systems and design changes also improve:
- Fuel efficiency
- Noise Reduction
- Idle quality

The fundamental mechanical design and function of the M73 TU is primarily carry over from the proven M73 engine introduced in the 1995 model year.

The following components and systems have been modified or added for the 1999 model year:

Engine Changes:
- Electrically heated catalytic converters (E-CAT) with new exhaust system
- Electric catalytic converter control module.
- Two battery system
- Long-life spark plugs
- Compact water cooled generator (F-alternator)
- Transmission fluid/coolant heat exchanger
- Rapid-action coupling in the coolant and transmission fluid circuit
- Pulley diameters modified to compensate for new minimum idle speed (530 RPM).
- Vibration damper
- Power steering pump
- Belt idler roller
- Generator pulley
The belt tension and the length of belts has also been changed.
