SUBJECT:
EWS3D Coding not Possible

MODEL:
318ti, Z3 and M Z3. Vehicles produced from 9/97

Situation:
EWS3D was introduced on all 318ti and Z3 vehicles produced from September 1998. When attempting to code a replacement EWS3D module, DIS displays the message "Coding data incorrect".

The problem will be corrected in DIS V16.0, available January 1999.

Cause:
Software error in DIS versions 15.0 and 15.1

Correction:
Fit precoded EWS3D module, until DIS V16.0 is available.

Procedure:
Place a VIN specific parts order, using either DCS2000, or fax, and BMW Parts Dept. will automatically route the order to Germany for supply of a precoded EWS3D module.

After installation of the precoded EWS3D module, align the module using DIS, or MoDiC, as follows:

^ Select "Coding/Programming"

^ Select "Alignment EWS-DME", and follow on screen instructions.
