Shift Solenoid Control (MV's)

Shift Solenoid Control (MV's)

4HP 24: The four forward gears are regulated by only two solenoids (MV's) that are designated MV1 and MV2. MV1 controls shifting for 1-2 and 3-4 gear selection. MV2 controls the 2-3 shift. With power supplied from the internal relay, they are energized by a switched ground from the TCM.

A4S 310/270R: The two shift solenoid valves MV1 (1-2 / 3-4) and MV2 (2-3) control all upshifting and downshifting of the transmission. The solenoids control the flow of pressurized hydraulic oil within the valve body to activate the shift valves. MV1 is normally closed and powered open, MV2 is normally open and powered closed.

A5S 360R: Shift solenoids A, B and C control clutch application for gear ratio changes via shift control. The solenoids are normally closed, on/off type valves. They are all identical.

A5S 310Z: MV 1, 2, 3 solenoids control clutch application for gear ratio changes/shift control. The solenoids are normally closed, on/off type valves. Power to solenoids 1, 2 and 3 is supplied by the TCM. The valves are activated by the TCM switching the circuit to ground. The TCM is programmed to activate the solenoids in the specific sequence for gear selection.

Additionally, MV 4 & MV 5 initiate hydraulically controlled overlap shifting during the 5/4 and the 3/2 downshifts. The solenoids take the place of freewheels to provide power flow overlap when downshifting.

- The MV 5 solenoid is energized briefly during the 5/4 downshift.
- The MV 4 solenoid is briefly energized during the 3/2 downshift.

A5S 440/560 Z: MV 1, 2, and 3 control clutch application for gear ratio changes/shift control. The solenoids are normally closed, on/off type valves.

Power to solenoids 1, 2 3 is supplied by the TCM. The valves are activated by a TCM controlled switched ground. The TCM is programmed to activate the solenoids in the specific sequence for gear selection.
