"Key in Ignition" Warning Chime

MODEL:
E46 (3 Series)

Situation:

The "Key in Ignition" warning chime continues to sound, when the sequence of events is as follows:

^ With the driver's door closed, turn off the ignition key, but do not remove the key.

^ Open the driver's door for more than one minute (The "Key in Ignition" warning chime sounds during this time)

^ Remove the key from the ignition and the warning chime continues to sound.

^ The chime can be switched off by closing the driver's door.

Cause:

Software error in Instrument Cluster SW 12, 13 and 14.

Correction:

No fix at present, do not replace the Instrument Cluster. The Instrument Cluster software will be corrected with Instrument Cluster SW 15, which will be released approximately March 1999.
