SITUATION

BMW has become aware of a potential problem that could affect the durability of Air Mass Meter of certain 1999 and 2000 BMW automobiles equipped with the 4.4 liter engine. We estimate that only a small percentage of vehicles will actually develop a problem. Vehicles affected will have an illuminated Check Engine Light and an "Air Mass Meter signal plausibility fault FC 73 (115 dec)" stored in the Engine Control Module (BCM/DME).

CORRECTION

In the event that the Air Mass Meter of a 1999 or 2000 B38 (740i) or E39 (540i), or a 2000 B53 (X5 4.4) with M62TU engine exhibits the symptoms listed above, it should be replaced with the improved part (PN 13 62 1 433 567). For air mass meter replacing instruction refer to RA 13 62 560 found in BMW TIS.
