Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

(left or right, as applicable )

Location: Lambda oxygen sensor after catalytic converter.
Switch off ignition.





Unfasten nuts in cover. Disconnect connector.





Unfasten Lambda oxygen sensor with special tool 11 7 030.
Tightening torque, refer to Engine, Specifications.

Installation:
The threads of new oxygen sensors are already coated with Never Seez Compound.
If an oxygen sensor is used again, apply a thin and even coat of Never Seez Compound (or equivalent) to the thread only.

Installation:
Do not clean the Lambda oxygen sensor section which protrudes into the exhaust line and ensure that it avoids all contact with lubricants.
Protect (mask) Lambda oxygen sensor when applying underseal.
Observe cable routing of oxygen sensor.
Interrogate fault memory of control unit on Digital Engine Electronics (DME), check fault messages in memory, rectify faults and cancel fault memory.
