Throttle Body: Service and Repair

Removing And Installing/Replacing Throttle Body (S62)


NOTE:
Interrogate fault memory of DME control unit.
Switch off ignition.
Remove manifold for intake air.
Instructions apply to removing and installing both throttle body assemblies on left and right.
The illustrations show the left throttle body assembly being removed.







Disconnect plug connections (1).
Unclip cables (2) from cable guides.







Disconnect plug connections (1) on left knock sensor pair.







Disconnect plug connection (1) on throttle actuator.
Unhook cable duct (2) from mounts and raise approx. 2 cm.

Installation:
Check seating of rubber grommet on ignition coil cable.
Unclip cable strip (3) from injector valves, push upwards and tie back with cable ties (e.g. to engine hood).







Disconnect plug connection (1) on throttle potentiometer.







Unfasten hose clip (1) and remove hose.
Pull off vacuum hose (2).







Unhook pull rods (1) at ball heads on servomotor side.
Release screws (2).
Remove injection pipe (3) together with injector valves towards top.

Installation:
Check O-rings on fuel injectors, replace if necessary.
Coat O-rings with anti-friction rubber coating (e.g. petroleum jelly).

Remove and install sealing flange for intake air manifold.

Installation:
Adjust throttle basic setting.







Unfasten hose clip (1).
Detach hose (2) from T-piece (3).


NOTE: When removing the right throttle body assembly, it is essential to detach two further hoses from the T-piece.







NOTE:
If necessary, pull on pull rod (1) to gain better access to nuts.
To release and tighten nuts:
Use an articulated socket wrench (11 A/F).







Release nuts on flanges at bottom (8 x in all).
Lift off throttle body completely.







Installation:
Replace O-rings (1).
Coat O-rings with anti-friction rubber coating (e.g. petroleum jelly).
Clean sealing surfaces on cylinder head.







Pull throttle body apart.
Check throttles for freedom of movement and if necessary replace throttle body.







Installation:
Replace O-rings (1) on connecting tubes and T-piece.
Coat O-rings with anti-friction rubber coating (e.g. petroleum jelly).







Installation:
Clean sealing surfaces (1) of throttle body.







Installation:
Push spring bolt (1) back a little.
Insert throttle lever (3) between adjusting screw (2) and spring bolt (1).
