Replacing Control Unit (DME) (S62)

Follow instructions for removing and installing electronic
control units.
Interrogate fault memory of DME control unit.
Switch off ignition.







Release retaining clips (1).


CAUTION!
The air duct can brake at the firewall if not carefully removed and installed.



Carefully twist air duct (2) upwards until it is no longer locked in firewall. Pull air duct (2) forwards and remove towards top.







Open locking bracket (1). Open cover of microfilter
housing (2) and unhook from hinges.
Open retaining clip (3).
Pull microfilter housing to right and lift out.

Installation:
Hook cover of filter housing into hinges in correct position.
Incorrect installation leads to sealing problems.







Release screws (1).
Tightening torque, 12 90 4AZ.
Remove cover (2) from electronics box.

From 10/2000:







NOTE: For purposes of clarity, the locking tabs (1) are shown with the cover opened.


After releasing screws, unlock both locking tabs (1) and remove cover.







Disconnect plug connections (1).
Release control unit of Digital Motor Electronics (2) from retaining clips (3) and pull out.


NOTE:
Interrogate fault memory of DME control unit.
Check stored fault messages.
Rectify faults.
Then clear fault memory.
