Additional Work With Passenger Airbag



- Steering wheel removed -
- Glove compartment removed -

Incorrect handling can activate airbag and result in injury.







WARNING!
Replace the airbag cover each time the airbag has been triggered!


We cannot guarantee that the retaining straps of the airbag cover will not be damaged when the airbag is triggered.

If a damaged airbag cover is reused, we cannot guarantee that the retaining straps will work properly.







Lift off cover (1) - not on Compact.

Unfasten screws, lift off passenger airbag (2) and pull off connector.

Installation:
Tightening Torque = 22 Nm







WARNING!
Passengers airbag may only be set down with impact pad facing upwards (luggage compartment).







Note for Compact:
The way in which the airbag cover and the airbag module are mounted has changed.


Airbag cover:
The airbag cover (3) is secured as before with the longitudinal strap (4) by a retaining rail (1) to be support tube.

The transverse straps (5) are also attached to this retaining rail (1).
The nuts (2) for mounting the airbag module to the support tube are located on this retaining rail (1).
The airbag cover is no longer mounted to the instrument panel.







Airbag module:
On the airbag module, the retaining nuts for the screw connection on the support tube are omitted.
The new airbag module is secured to the support tube with the nuts (2) on the retaining rail (1).

Conversion instructions for this reinforcement, if necessary (refer to list):
To convert instrument panel reinforcement, release screws (1) and remove reinforcement.
Install this instrument panel reinforcement in new instrument panel before installing latter.

Follow conversion work must be carried out if the previously fitted airbag cover was mounted to the instrument panel and an airbag cover of 05/98 is used as a replacement with the transverse straps secured to the retaining rail:
- Instrument panel is replaced, airbag cover and airbag module are reused.
- Convert instrument panel reinforcement.
- Instrument panel is replaced, airbag cover and airbag module are replaced.
- No conversion work necessary.







- Instrument panel is replaced, airbag cover is replaced, airbag module is refused.
- Convert reinforcement in instrument panel.
- Remove transverse straps (2) and retaining rail (1) from new airbag cover.
- New airbag cover is held at instrument panel reinforcement.







- Airbag cover is replaced.
Instrument panel is not replaced, airbag module is reused.
- Remove transverse straps (2) and retaining rail (1) from new airbag cover.
- New airbag cover is held at instrument panel reinforcement.

- Airbag cover is replaced.
Airbag module is replaced.
Instrument panel is not replaced,
- No conversion work necessary.
