SUBJECT:
Check Engine Light Illuminated, Faults Stored in DME/ECM
MODEL:
All
SITUATION:
Information received from the field indicates that in a large number of cases the fuel filler cap is the primary cause for the illumination of the Check Engine Light due to the following:
-- Insufficient sealing pressure: the fuel filler cap is not turned to the full stop.
-- Retaining strap on fuel filler cap is caught between the filler pipe and the fuel filler cap.
In order to raise the customer's awareness regarding the importance of a properly sealed fuel filler cap and the effect that it has on the illumination of the check engine light, a special brochure has been created to provide an explanation of why the light may illuminate.
The "Check Engine Light" brochure is currently part of the customer information that is delivered with each car. Please inform your customers about this brochure and discuss the importance of a properly sealed fuel filler cap whenever the engine is running, on delivery of the car to the customer.
Copies of the brochure can be ordered from Service Engineering as shown using the pre-printed Material Order Form (Not Shown).
